It is important to improve the resilience of ICU nurses in order to survive a public health emergency. [Aims] To review the literature on ICU nurses' resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide a resource for preparing for future unanticipated situations and for supporting ICU nurses to improve their resilience. [Methods] A PubMed search was conducted for original articles using the keywords ‘ICU nurse’, ‘resilience’ and ‘COVID-19’. [Results] The mental health of ICU nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic was significantly worse, and resilience ranged from low to high and was not constant. The resilience of ICU nurses was assessed using the following criteria: male, clinical experience of at least 5 years, previous COVID-19 education, self-protection confidence, and nurses with leadership duties had higher levels of resilience, and lower levels than doctors. Resilience was positively correlated with a sense of mission for the job, and ethical leadership showed a moderating role on resilience and sense of mission for the job.
