| 内容記述 | This paper will examine the importance of “food” or “meal” in Christ/ianity. In the light of “food” or “meal” , Christianity is very outstanding comparing with other religions. Because in the Testaments ---both the Old and the New---there are many scenes or episodes that include food or meal, of which scenes have been painted in many western religious paintings along with, say, “Nativity” , “Crucifixion” . And especially in Catholic mass, the climax is the Eucharist, which has followed “the Last Supper” or “the Lord’s Supper” . Taking into these in mind, the first chapter confirms the importance of meal in the Old and the New Testaments, the result of which reveals the generosity of God and feast for unknown travelers or the treatment of the poor as the superior virtue. In the New Testament, miracles concerning “food” appears many times. Paying attention to multiplication of bread, we find that this event has two opposite vectors, which are the past oriented vector and the future oriented one. The former means that Jesus is “New Moose” who gives the true bread, the bread of life. The latter indicates the Eucharist. The second chapter discusses the actual significance of Fast and Feast. According to Laura Hartman, the author of “Consuming Christ: The Role of Christ in Christian Food Ethics” , we fast and feast as/with/for Christ respectively. In the Eucharist, which has both sides of fast and feast and of which the most important is “sharing” , we meet each other and the Christ, become parts of the Christ. And this metamorphose must not limited to the Eucharist but occurs in daily meal. Then, if daily meal can be sacrament, we could reconsider the last moment of the girls of Junshin High School, who gave away their own water to others, in the light of sacrament. The third chapter examines this possibility. |
